Check Out: Discount iPod Nano
Sure you can access Wikipedia from your iPod touch or iPhone’s browser whenever you’ve got an internet connection, but if the idea of putting the entirety of Wikipedia on your phone or MP3 player tickles your fancy, the Wikipedia application is just what you’re looking for.
Beats me why anybody would want to put the entire wikipedia database on an iPod or iPhone but it takes all sorts I suppose! Maybe when one of your friends is spouting off some inane facts about the amount of water which cascades over the Niagara Falls or something you could quickly doublecheck your iPod and put them right. Then again much of the content on wikipedia is not to be trusted as reliable information so be careful on that one. You don’t want to make yourself look like a chump!
You’ll need a jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch and at least 2.2GB of free space (it’s all of Wikipedia, after all). Then you’ll need to SSH into your device (which I covered here) to copy over the files. Don’t have a fancy new iPhone or iTouch? You can put Wikipedia on your older iPods, too.
If you need to know how to jailbreak your iPod or iPhone then you can check the source article below. That article also details how to put wikipedia on older iPods. I can think of much better things to do with your iPod or iPhone than putting the entire wikipedia database on there but I suppose it could be useful for some people. Just remember there’s a reason why most schools and educational establishments wholeheartedly recommend against using wikipedia for any kind of serious research. The large portion of it is written by people with an ulterior motive.
