The iPod made it’s appearance in November 2001 with the Shuffle. By late 2005 it was the iPod Mini that was all the rage, and the best seller for Apple. This was the time when Apple made the wholesale audacious decision to introduce their new model - the iPod Nano.
This was no discount iPod. Nano coast about the same as the mini, even though it had less memory storage space. However, it used a 2 or 4 gigabyte Flash memory drive, whereas the Mini used a 1 inch hard drive for its memory.
To say that the iPod Nano was not a great leap forward discounts the fact that it was significantly smaller than the Mini - half the thickness and three-quarters of the width, a mere micro compared to the Mini - and it looked better too. Maybe it wasn’t a greatest bargain in Apple’s portfolio, but the people loved it.
